New teachers inducted into Ghana Education Service

One hundred-and-twenty-six new teachers sent to the Mfantseman Municipality have been inducted into the Ghana Education Service. They were made up of 86 trained and 40 pupil teachers. The Rt Rev Ato Brown, the Bishop of the Anomabo Methodist Church who conducted the induction service, advised teachers not to allow monetary gains to override their love and care for the children entrusted in their care. "You must regard the children as your own siblings and work hard for their progress," he said. Earlier, a workshop was organized by the Municipal Directorate of Education for the teachers. Ms Vivian Etroo, the Municipal Director of Education, appealed to the teachers not to rush to upgrade their academic qualification at the expense of the children. "Leaving children to their fate to concentrate on private studies during school hours has contributed to the falling standard of education." Mr Osman Abakah, the Central Regional Manager of Ahmadiyya School, cautioned the teachers against the use of canes on children. The Rev Canon Charles Ekyem, the Municipal Guidance and Counselling Coordinator, called for training of more teachers on the subject to improve guidance and counselling services in schools.
