Govt To Invest GH¢1bn Into Free SHS – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that about GH₵1 billion will be invested next year to sustain the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

According to him, the policy would immensely benefit Ghanaians.

Vice President stated that the laudable policy would not collapse.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that plans were underway to boost infrastructure at the various schools to ensure that the basic needs of students are met.

He reiterated government’s commitment to providing education to every Ghanaian child of school-going age. 420,000 students are to benefit from the free SHS policy this year.

Vice President Bawumia said some 400,000 students, representing 94 percent of students who passed the just-ended BECE, have been placed into Senior High schools as against 80 percent last year.

Vice President made the disclosure when he launched the free SHS policy at the Tamale Senior High School (SHS) in the Northern Region.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, gave assurance that the Northern Region would support the free SHS policy.

The launch of the policy attracted dignitaries such as Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul, chiefs, religious leaders, opinion leaders and educational stakeholders.
