Govt: FM Station For Every District Capital

As a result of the tragedy which befell the ministry of foreign affairs leading to the loss of vital data, government will construct two data protection centres to be located in Accra and Kumasi in the first quarter of 2010 for the storage of data. Government will soon seek parliamentary approval for the establishment of the data protection centers. The minister for communication Hon. Haruna Iddrisu stated this in Parliament when he contributed to debate on the 2010 budget. He said plans for the establishment of the data protection centers is contained in paragraph 414 of the 2010 budget. Hon Haruna Iddrisu also said government intends to seek parliamentary approval to institute a new software in the country to monitor international telephone traffic to Ghana to check fraud within the telecom sector. According to the minister government has also decided to decentralize the activities and operations of the National Communication Authority (NCA) to ensure the presence of the NCA in the various regions. He said government is committed to helping every district capital to have an FM station to enhance information flow in the country.
