Editorial: Shut Up Kojo Bonsu

The Daily Graphic edition of Monday, November 23, 2009 carried allegations made by a certain Kojo Bonsu, a self styled football administrator to the effect that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is brazenly laden with indiscipline and corruption. Mr. Bonsu therefore calls for the immediate establishment of a Public Interest Committee (PIC) to probe the activities of the GFA and help check indiscipline and corruption in the football fraternity. The President of the GFA, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, has reacted very swiftly and intelligently, denying the allegations Mr Nyantakyi explains that the GFA does not engage itself in any acts that have the potential of affecting the smooth running of the Association, let alone indulge in corruption The President therefore throws up a challenge to Mr. Bonsu to provide prove of his claims if he really means well for the country. Indeed, a lot of well-meaning Ghanaians have waded into the foray, demanding that Mr Bonsu provide evidence of his claim. The question is when did Mr Bonsu realize that the activities of GFA were laden with indiscipline and corruption Since he is a former football administrator what actions(s) has he taken to ensure that these problems are nipped in the bud? We dare say that his allegations betray a certain mindset pull him down aimed at ensuring that the current GFA administration does not succeed. It is repugnant and even regrettable that someone who claims to have administered football before would make such unmeritorious and blanket allegations without let. We at the Daily Searchlight cannot fathom why Mr. Bonsu would throw caution to the wind, and chose to indulge in unfounded and indeed, baseless allegations much to the annoyance of well-meaning and discerning Ghanaians. We believe strongly that the operations of the GFA are not shrouded in secrecy as to warrant such bogus and unnecessary claims. We are aware that the Associations accounts are audited and that the same were presented to the transition team in February and nothing untoward was done or found to necessitate such vitriolic vituperations. By these reckless and unguarded pronouncements coming from some who should know better, the Daily Searchlight is tempted to believe that there is a grand hostile plot to smear the GFA boss to achieve purely selfish ends We urge the executives of the GFA, and especially, its President not to be perturbed or distracted by the development but forge ahead and work assiduously towards the attainment of its goals and objectives.
