Court convicts two people

The Suhum Magistrate Court on Thursday convicted two people to a total fine of GHC 150 for committing various environmental offences. The convicted persons would be imprisoned for four months in default. George Gavouga, a carpenter, charged with indiscriminate dumping of refuse on an under developed plot of land pleaded guilty with explanation but his explanation was not accepted by the court. Rebecca Adjoa also pleaded guilty to a charge of living weeds to overgrow behind her living room. Mr Raymond Agbodo, Principal Environmental Officer, told the court that on October 29, environmental health inspectors on their normal rounds entered the premises of the convicts and detected the offence and were therefore issued with the summons. Meanwhile five people who failed to attend the court were issued with bench warrant for their arrest.
