Obrafour, born Kwabena Okyere-Darko, has urged the country’s youth to desist from sitting on the fence in matters related to governance.
According to the ‘Pae Mu Ka’ hitmaker who was speaking at a symposium as part of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s 108 birthday celebration,the youth’s input is important to building a better Ghana tomorrow.
“There is the need for the youth to actively participate in the issues of governance in this country. It is time for us to rise up,” he said.
“The saddest part of our society nowadays is the so-called men of God. All they’re interested in is selling anointing oil for money. Because of their inordinate love of money, they will never preach the gospel in a way that will truly enable people to seek God.
“Today, to survive in our society depends somehow on your political affiliation. Propaganda has, therefore, become the new order. Our leaders will turn the truth upside down without second thoughts if it achieves their parochial goals,” he also observed.
“Now we have alternative truths in our society. Every one chooses what they want to believe as truth simply because of politics. Some declare holy war in the name of religion. But all they end up achieving is shedding human blood,” he added.
The Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s 108 birthday celebration symposium, organised by the Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Centre, in collaboration with Economic Fighters League (The Fighters), was held under the theme: ‘New Generation; New Conversation’.
It was aimed at engaging the youth to change politics of insults and attacks by debating the ideas that Dr Kwame Nkrumah left behind for Ghana and see how best those ideas can be tapped into and also be merged with current circumstances in Ghana.
“So we are changing the conversation from bickering political quibbles to a contest of ideas,” Jason Tutu, communications commander for the programme, told NEWS-ONE on Friday.
It was attended by other professionals like doctors, politicians, media practitioners, fashion designers, entertainers and a host of others.
Among them were Kweku Sintim Misa (KSM), Pappy Kojo, Manasseh Azure, Kesse, Obrafour, Samia Nkrumah, among others.
There were discussions as to whether Ghana should adopt a single ideology strategy or otherwise. Those who supported Nkrumah explained that if Ghana chooses from different parts, it is, for instance, like “bringing parts of Toyota to merge with Mercedes Benz. If you don’t fix it properly, it will face problem.”
They believed that is what is creating contradictions in the structure of Ghana’s economy. There was a general consensus among discussants that President Akufo-Addo is virtually following the path of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. They were of the opinion that if he keeps following that path, he would achieve a lot for the country. Some said his introduction of the Free SHS was done in the posture Dr Kwame Nkrumah would have done it.
Obrafour reiterated it was time for the youth to get serious and be part of issues about nation building. “It shouldn’t be the sole prerogative of the old since whatever decisions they take at the end would affect everyone,” he added.
Pappy Kojo, Kese and Obrafour also performed to entertain patrons of the ceremony.
