The Management Committee chairman of Black Stars B, Nii Komiete Doku, has debunked rumours that the government has still not fulfilled its $100,000 bonus promise to the team for winning the recent West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations.

According to him the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had actually received a cheque of $100,000 from the government and was only waiting for it to mature so it could be cleared.

Nii Doku confirmed to the Graphic Sports that he received the $100,000 cheque from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) a day after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promised to reward the team with the said amount.

"I am dismayed by reports in the media suggesting that the team was yet to receive the winning bonus promised them by the President.

"I picked up the cheque of $100,000 from the ministry a day after the President's announcement and the money was placed into the GFA account, waiting for clearance," Nii Doku said.

Reports were rife that the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Frema Opare Addo, failed to release the cash to the team after the President promised to reward the players for winning the WAFU tournament.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the MOYS, Elvis Adjei-Baah, rubbished the claims, stating that his outfit paid the cash to the management of the Black Stars B just a day after the President's promise.

When asked whether the Stars B players had been briefed about the delay in clearing the cash, Nii Doku said they were in touch with the team through its Welfare Officer, Edmund Ackah, and that everybody would be sorted out immediately after the clearance.
