Seminar on human rights issues in oil exploration ends

A three-day seminar on human rights issues in oil exploration ended at Takoradi on Monday. The Centre for Public Interest Law, a Human Rights Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and the Wassa Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM) organised the seminar for 20 participants drawn from communities likely to be affected by the oil exploration. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the seminar, Mr Kwesi Baffoe Intsiful, a lawyer and member of the Centre for Public Interest Law, said the aim of the seminar was to educate communities on the impact of the oil exploration. He said the participants had been trained as paralegals to educate their communities on their rights and to document human rights violations to assist the Centre in its advocacy work. Mr Intsiful said the participants would form the nucleus of the network of communities affected by oil exploration.
