Four armed robbers who allegedly conspired and robbed a medical staff of the United Nations, Dr. Robert Mensah, and his two sisters at Awoshie, a suburb of Accra, have been remanded into custody by an Accra circuit court.
George Yeboah, taxi driver; Bright Adjei aka Wizzy, trader; Robert Alhassan aka Joe B, unemployed and Emmanuel Atiso aka Monitor, were hauled before the court on three counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy.
The four alleged robbers are said to have raided the home of the UN staff at Awoshie and randomly ransacked his room and later went to the rooms of his two sisters and conducted a similar act there.
They managed to make away with some money and other electronic gadgets, all totalling GH¢12,315.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court, presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, remanded the accused persons into custody and adjourned the case to November 1, 2017.
The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Kwame Adu are that the first complainants, Dr. Robert Mensah, UN medical Staff; Bernice Mensah, teacher and Eunice Mensah, law student, are family members and reside at Awoshie.
He told the court that on May 5, 2017, the four alleged robbers, wielding a cutlass and metal cutter, broke into Dr. Mensah’s house and robbed him of his Dell laptop valued at GH¢3,700, Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone valued at GH¢950 and cash of GH¢1,850.
The robbers then went to Bernice Mensah’s room and robbed her of her HP notebook valued at GH¢1,500, a Huawei WiFi, iPad and other things.
They further ransacked Eunice Mensah’s room and also stole a Huawei mobile phone, a tablet and an amount of GH¢1,105.
Chief Inspector Adu said, “The robbers, in a haste to escape with their booty, Robert Alhassan aka Joe B, left his Samsung blue mobile phone behind.”
Intelligence led to the arrest of George Yeboah as the taxi driver, saying Bright Adjei, Robert Alhassan and Emmanuel Atiso. were arrested on October 6, 2017 at their hideout at Darkuman, Accra.
“Upon interrogation they admitted the offence and mentioned one notorious businessman called Abaa, based at Circle and Alajo – but currently on the run – as their sponsor and buyer of all the robbed items which they took from the complainants’ house,” he said.
