Mr. Paul Adu-Gyamfi, the immediate past Chairman of the NMC, who said during his tenure, the commission endeavoured to promote media freedom, improve the quality of journalism and insulated the state owned media from governmental control. Mr. Adu-Gyamfi noted that through their efforts, the freedom and independence of the media received a considerable boost with Ghana consistently performing well on all major international indices when assessing media freedom. He said the NMC deepened reflections on media standards in Ghana which led to the development of guidelines for political journalism and local language broadcasting. Mr. Adu-Gyamfi said a media monitoring centre had been established that systematically monitored media performance, identified deficiencies and proposed interventions.
