‘Support Jasikan To Be Made Regional Capital’

The chiefs and people of Nsuta Buem in the Jasikan District have called on its neighbours to throw their weight behind Jasikan to be made the regional capital, if a new region is created out of the Volta Region.

They maintained that Jasikan had demonstrated in the past that it believed in sharing and would continue to hold in high esteem the vision of the total development of the area.

Mr Isaka Briamah, chairman of the Coalition for Peace and Development in Buem, made the call on behalf of the chiefs and people at the 2017 Buem Congress held at Nsuta Buem.

The yearly meeting is used to discuss critical issues that affect the development of the area.

Mr Briamah stated that new region, rumoured to be called Oti, must cover the area formally known as the Buem-Krachi District.

That, he said, would bring peace since the then Buem-Krachi District already has a demarcation which when used would not bring about any demarcation problems.

In order to realise our dream, it is imperative for Nananom and opinion leaders to sensitise our people to vote massively towards the creation of the region during the referendum.

It is a requirement in the laws that 80 per cent of the total votes cast should be in favour of the creation and anything short of that would be disastrous for the people of the proposed Oti Region.

The District Chief Executive for Jasikan, Lawrence Aziale, commended the chiefs and people for the peace and unity in the area.

He assured the people that government was making all the necessary efforts for the completion of the Hohoe-Jasikan stretch of the Eastern Corridor road.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Daniel Assiamah called on the people to support the one district one factory policy of the government to help process the raw material of those in cassava and ginger farming.
