We, on THE PUBLISHER, had hitherto thought that Ghana’s Ambassadors to other countries were diplomats appointed by His Excellency, President Nana Akufo-Addo, so they represent GHANA and not any political party or selected group of persons.
We had thought our Ambassadors were tasked to do their job of service to the country Ghana and were appointed into public office to serve all Ghanaian with equal measure without fear or favour, affection or ill-will.
Little did we know that one of them, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa George Ayisi-Boateng, had a different lesson note and that his appointing authority had tasked him to members of a particular political party as his priority before any other Ghanaian.
When we read, such comments had been attributed to His Excellency George Ayisi-Boateng, we thought it was an error on the part of the reporters or perhaps the High Commissioner simply slipped and goofed. We were awakened from our slumber when he came back to defend his statement.
This was exactly what was attributed to George Ayisi-Boateng: “I told my people over there [that] it is because of NPP that I’m here so the NPP man is my priority. I told them when NDC was in power it was Kwesi Ahwoi who was there, now we are in power, so Ayisi-Boateng is here with you. My topmost priority is the problems of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it.
“…Indeed, I’m not boasting but I’ve started meeting the NPP groups. Every weekend I meet some group members and I tell you if I had my way, every job opportunity that will come will go to a TESCON member before any other person. And I know my colleague appointees also have the same feeling except that because of IMF we cannot do anything now…,” he added.
To be blunt, what the High Commissioner said amounts to pure loose talk. Vert discriminative statement. Highly undiplomatic. Politically bias comments that should not come from the lips of anyone in public service.
This is an ambassador that is paid by the tax-payer. The tax-payer is a-political. The tax-payer comprises of Ghanaians from different political affiliations and not just members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The President himself has said the government he leads shall seek the interest of all Ghanaians. That was the oath on which our President swore on the holy bible.
It is therefore shamefully unacceptable that some of his appointees, and a High Commissioner for that matter, would have a different posture.
We should be honest to condemn wrong became good men who remain mute when they see evil, are themselves evil men.
THE PUBLISHER recommends that His Excellency George Ayisi-Boateng, should ponder on what his own bible says in Philippians 4: 8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
And also in Ephesians 4: 29: “do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
It seems some of our elders have started to behave like children with ungirded tongues. Elders who lack the courage, decorum and decency to apologize when they goof but rather go around to defend their statement no matter how divisive, discriminatory or bias it may be.
