Kwabre honours 35 teachers and other workers

Thirty-Five teachers and other non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Kwabre District have been honoured at a ceremony at Mamponteng for hard work and outstanding performance. They received television sets, refrigerators, mattress, gas cookers, standing fans, blenders and certificates as their prizes. It is the first time in four years that the district has rewarded well-performing teachers and it was held under the theme, "A well-motivated teacher/worker; the key to quality education and development." Mr Joseph Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, urged all stakeholders in education to accept to play their expected roles properly to raise standards. He said it should not be lost on anyone that quality education could be delivered only through the combined efforts of all key actors to create the right environment for effective teaching and learning. Teachers, he said, also needed to be respected and appreciated for the good job they are doing to nurture the country's future leaders. Mr Onyinah said it was on account of this that such awards should be encouraged and sustained. He said he was confident that the ceremony would motivate teachers in the area to become more dedicated and "go the extra mile" to enhance the performance of schools. The Reverend Joseph Henry Ofosuhene, the District Director of Education, said the ceremony was a prelude to more good things to happen in the coming years. There are plans to expand the awards to cover early childhood teachers; and Schools that excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Sports and Culture and other disciplines. He said as the teachers are being motivated, they should inspire the children through innovative teaching methods to problem solving, good moral conduct and counselling to help them to achieve academic excellence. Adams Iddrisu, the District Chief Executive, pledged the Assembly's total commitment to the development of education.
