Procter and Gamble launches scholarship scheme

World leading providers of products and services, Procter and Gamble Nigeria Ltd, has launched a scholarship scheme aimed at providing financial support to 50 girls in Ghana. The scheme will also provide hygiene and puberty education programme and a free transportation system for the beneficiaries as part of efforts to encourage girl- child education in the country. The scheme will provide a grant of N20, 000 for each girl, with a star prize of one week trip to Nigeria for the most outstanding student. Launching the programme, Miss Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, said although the government had the mandate and responsibility to develop females through education, other competing demands on the scarce resources made it difficult for government to fulfil its role. "Your intervention is therefore timely and would enable more girls to have the opportunity of being in school to pursue a course of study, which would ultimately help them carve a career in future". The Minister said. Madam Tolu Adedeji, Assistant Brands Manager of Always Sanitary product, encouraged girls to take full advantage of the scholarship scheme and the hygiene/puberty education programme to enhance their education. She reaffirmed the brand's commitment to aid young women to live a stress free life during their menstrual cycle and encouraged the use of Always for comfort and good health. The feminine Hygiene and Puberty Education, which is on-going in Ghana, had reached more than 400,000 girls since its commencement. The company aims at covering 100,000 more before the close of the year.
