26 farmers receive honour in the E/R

Twenty six (26) farmers and two journalists were recognised for their hard work and contribution towards the growth of agriculture at this year's farmers day celebrations in the Eastern Region. Mr Abraham Adusei, a 66-year-old Farmer from Osiem was adjudged the overall Best Farmer at the ceremony, which was held at Ahumahumaso, a town in the Fanteakwa District. Mr Adusei, has 300 acres of cocoa plantation and large variety of crops, whilst Mr Richard Amponsah, a student of Pentecost University in Accra was adjudged the first runner-up with 100 acres of variety of crops. Others included Mr Tettey Clarkston, from Dedesu who won the Best Fisherman, whilst Mr Kingsley Kissi from Kwabibirem won the Best Fish Farmer with 27 fish ponds consisting of 300 fingerlings. All the award winners received prizes ranging from deep freezers, spraying machines, bicycles, wax prints, agro chemicals, sewing machines, Wellington boots and certificates. Ms Bertha Badu-Adyei of the Ghana News Agency and Mr Abraham Kofoya-Tetteh were also adjudged the best journalists in agricultural reporting in the region Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Regional Minister said silos at Forifori in the Afram Plains would be rehabilitated for drying of maize on commercial basis as part of the means to boost agricultural production. He said 32 feeder roads and nine steel bridges would be constructed at selected districts in the region to improve transportation of farm produce.
