The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, is leading a delegation of officials from some selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies to attend the Third Session of the Ghana-Togo Permanent Joint Commission for Co-operation which is taking place in the Togolese capital, Lome, from December 7 to 8. The Joint Commission which serves as a framework for the examination and discussion of all aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries has been inactive since its last session in March 1992. The need to reactivate and strengthen the Joint Commission featured prominently in discussions between leaders of the two countries during President John Attah Mills� visit to Lome in April this year and the reciprocal visit of President Faure Gnassingbe to Ghana in August. The decision to reconvene the Joint Commission thus forms part of the renewed commitment on the part of President John Atta Mills and his Togolese counterpart, to strengthen and improve upon the existing warm and cordial bilateral relations between Ghana and Togo. High on the agenda of the Third Session is the reactivation of the Ghana � Togo Border Demarcation Commission. The reactivation of this Commission is considered critical following recent reports of incidents among some communities along the ill-defined common border. The discovery of oil in Ghana has also raised the need for proper demarcation of the maritime boundary between the two countries. The 3rd Session of the Permanent Joint Commission will also discuss matters of trade, security and other issues of mutual interest to the two neighbouring countries. Ghana�s delegation, headed by the Foreign Minister, is made up of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Trade and Industry, Justice, Defence, Education, Chieftaincy and Culture, Water Resources, Works and Housing, Tourism, as well as the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) and the Ghana Immigration Service.
