WAEC Cancels 1,873 Results Of Private Candidates

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld results of 1,873 candidates who wrote the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates on suspicion of being involved in examination malpractices.

WAEC said the results have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigation.

A statesment signed by Rev. Victor Brew,acting Deputy Director of Public Affairs of WAEC, said the withheld results would be released as soon as the council concludes investigations and candidates can access results at www.waecgh,org.

According to WAEC, 117,306 candidates sat for the 2017 WAEC for private candidates.

The council advised candidates to be wary of activities of fraudsters who contact candidates with the promise of betterment their results for a fee payable through mobile money transfers.

The statement assured that the council's results database is well secured.

"As such all forged results can be detected by the confirmation/verification system.

"Institutions and organisations are advised to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from the council or access the confirmation/verification service online at the WAEC website," it added.
