Carve Another District Out Of North Tongu

Togbe Adela Ananze Titriku XII, Chief of Amanflu Division of Dorfor and the acting President of Dorfor Traditional Council, has appealed to government not to abandon plans of creating a new district out of the North Tongu District.

He noted that implementation of plans at creating a new district for Dorfor, Volo, Fodzoku and Torgorme traditional areas with a district capital at Juapong seemed to have been halted and called for its revival.

Togbe Titriku who made the appeal at this year’s Ayimagonu Festival of the Chiefs and people of Dorfor Traditional Area said the size of North Tongu District was too big and needed to be relooked at and that all requirements had been met for the creation of a new district.

He also called the attention of authorities to the lack of potable water in most parts of the area though the Volta River flows through the land and expressed worry over the halting of work on a proposed water project by the Austrian government, planned to benefit the North Tongu and Ho West districts.

Mr Collins Arku, District Chief Executive, North Tongu, said consultation processes were still on-going for the creation of the new district.

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament, North Tongu Constituency, expressed gratitude to the government for not suspending ongoing works on major roads in the District.

He said though government had suspended most road contracts including the Eastern Corridor, work was still ongoing on the Juapong-Adidome and Juapong-Abutia roads.
