Bar Operator, Others In Court For Robbery

Ekow Annan, a drinks bar operator, and two others, have appeared before the Accra Circuit Court ‘One’ charged with alleged robbery of a Chinese of his hand bag containing GH¢1,000 and other personal effects.

The accused, and his accomplices, Mohammed Iddris, a trader, and Nii Ayittey Thompson, a welder, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The court heard that Annan, caused the arrest of his accomplices for not getting his fair share of the booty.

Presiding Judge, Mr. Aboagye Tanhoh remanded the three into police custody to appear again on December 11.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mawuyon Nanegbe, prosecutor, said on November 18, at about 10:30pm, the complainant and his brother hired a taxi driver to convey them to Cumberland Hotel at Adabraka, Accra.

She said while at the hotel with other women, the taxi driver whispered to Iddris that the Chinese had money in their bags, adding that Iddris conspired with his accomplices to attack the Chinese.

DSP Nanegbe said on their way back home, the taxi driver on reaching a spot where Thompson and Iddris had waited, pretended his car was faulty, adding that the armed robbers took advantage and snatched the bag from the complainants.

The court heard that the accused were arrested on November 20, upon a tip-off, and Thompson had refunded GH¢100 he received as his share of the booty.
