Notorious Land Guard Gunned Down

An Ex -Military officer has gun down a man believed to be the notorious ringleader of land guards at Akwamu, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Region.

The deceased has been identified as,45,whose body has since been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital morgue, was part of close to 100 land guards who went on rampage and invaded some farms to terrorise landowners, specifically Nkansah Farms and Odonkor Farms near Nsawam.

Information gathered by the DAILY HERITAGE indicates that they attacked and disarmed security men who were charged to man the farms.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, said on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at about 11:00 a.m., the Nsawam police received distress calls that someone had been gun down at Odonkor Farms, near Akwamu.

ASP Tetteh said police personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene and met a retired soldier, Sgt Ocloo Raphael, aged 51, wielding a pump action gun containing four rounds of AA cartridges.

According to him, the police confiscated the gun and the cartridges, and upon interrogation, the retired soldier admitted shooting someone to death in self-defence because he was under attack by that person and his accomplices.

The deceased was identified as Kwaku Asare and his accomplices were Emmanuel Kwofi ,46, and several others who are at large.

The Regional Police PRO added that the ex- soldier led the police to a distance of about 300 metres away, where the body of Asare was found face down in a pool of blood with a machete in his right hand.

He said later, at about 12:00p.m., one Anthony Asagbavi, 36, and Ayawoley Stephen, 32, security men in charge of Nkansah Farms in the area reported to the police that while on a farm some men, numbering about 100 and wielding machetes, sticks and guns attacked and disarmed them and proceeded to the Odonkor farm.

He continued that in an hour later, three men, John Narh, alias Attah , 22, Kofi Adjei, 40, and Kwame Ntow ,48, brought to the police one pump action gun containing five rounds of AA cartridges and an empty single barrel gun.

They reported that they seized the guns from the Nkansah Farms security men.

ASP Tetteh said the three were arrested and detained in police custody to assist in investigation.

Meanwhile the police have intensified petrols in the area.
