Labourer Butchers Pregnant Girlfriend To Death

A 27 year-old causal labour has butchered his 22 year-old pregnant girlfriend to death.

The suspect, Felix Akwasi Zumaba, allegedly inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on his girlfriend, Alifatu Abena who was carrying his five months old baby.

Felix attempted to commit suicide after the barbaric act, but the Asankrangwa District Police Command rescued him.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Asankragwa Catholic hospital under police guard.

The Asankragwa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kingsley Owusu Bempah, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the deceased used to live with her parents at Oda Kutuamso, near Asankrangwa.

DSP Bempah said Alifatu later went to settle at Asankragwa to learn dressing making and in the process met the suspect and they lived together for the past eight months.

He said on December 10, at about 12:00 am, Mr Joseph Kojo Tarkyi, a landlord at New Asankrangwa, in the Amenfi West district reported to the police that the suspect who was one of his tenants came to knock on his door deep in the night, with blood stains all over his body.

DSP Bempah said after receiving the information, the police accompanied Mr. Tarkyi to the house and added that when they arrived Felix’s door was locked with blood on his porch.

The District Police Commander said when they forced the door opened both the deceased and suspect were lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on their throats.

He said the two were first sent to the Asankrangwa Catholic hospital and the medical officer who attended to them realized that Alifatu had passed on, but Felix was still alive.

DSP Bempah said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Enchi government hospital for autopsy.
