Stump-Harvesting In River Oti To Begin In January

Mr Kweku Ofori Asiamah, Minister for Transport, has cut the sod for the commencement of work on the removal of tree stumps along transport routes on the Oti River at Dambai.

The project is to aid safer navigation following obstructions by thousands of tree stumps on the waterway, with intermittent reported cases of boat disasters.

The Minister said Government through the Ghana Maritime Authority had awarded a GHC 3.5 million to Dadeso Holdings Limited to harvest the stumps in a space of about 1.5 nautical miles, beginning January 2018 and asked the Authority to ensure that safety regulations were adhered to.

Mr Asiamah said government was also working around a landing site at Dambai and rehabilitation of sites at Yeji, Kpando and Senchi.

Mr Michael Dzato, Deputy Minister, Sanitation and Water Resources and Member of Parliament for the area, asked chiefs in the area to support the projects for safer transportation system.
