Gambia's Ecobank Head To Replace Asiama At BoG – Report

State-owned Daily Graphic newspaper has reported that the government has tipped Mrs Josephine Ankomah, who heads Ecobank in The Gambia, as replacement for Dr Johnson Asiama, who is reported by the same paper to be in negotiations with the government over his exit as Second Deputy Governor.

According to the paper, Dr Asiama’s fate is uncertain as his legal adviser says the government is pushing for his exit from the Central Bank.

According to the paper, Dr Asiama’s legal team is yet to begin discussions over a negotiated package for him.

Meanwhile, Governor of the central bank, Dr Ernest Addison, has, in response to media reports that his Second Deputy has resigned, said: “He [Dr Asiama] is on leave.”

Dr Addison made the comment to journalists at a Press Soiree in Accra on Tuesday, 12 December.

Dr Asiama, who is on a 10-day leave, denied media reports that he had resigned from the BoG.
