2 Houses Burnt Over District Capital

Residents of Biisting, a community in the Bunkprugu-Yunyoo district have been thrown into a state of fear with many seeking refuge in the bush after a group of unidentified gunmen attacked the community firing gunshots and in the process burnt two houses.

Daily Guide  gathers that the gunshots and burning started around 1am on Tuesday December 19, 2017.

The Assemblyman for the area, Bakuchama Naamso, who confirmed the incident to Daily Guide , said the unidentified gunmen were suspected to be the same people who earlier attacked residents of Yunyoo.

According to him, they believed the attacks were linked to the creation of the new district from the existing Bunkprugu-Yunyoo district and the siting of the administrative capital.

He, however, stated that the incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Command and the DCE as well.

The assemblyman disclosed that 13 empty cartridges were retrieved from the premises of one of the burnt houses.

As at the time of filing this report, no arrest had been made and no deaths or casualties were recorded.

Meanwhile security personnel had been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks.

It will be recalled that residents of Yunyoo in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region fled the town for fear of losing their lives following the firing of gunshots by some suspected youth from Namongo, a neighbouring community in the constituency.

Sources in Yunyoo revealed that the unidentified gunmen fired shots into the community at about 4 am and fled before the arrival of police personnel.

They believed that the attacks were part of plans to make the town look like a conflict-prone community which would make it unsuitable for the district capital.
