GIS Introduces Re-Entry Stickers ...

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) will, from the beginning of next year, introduce a new extension and re-entry permit stickers.

The new stickers which are issued to foreign nationals who are seeking to extend their stay in the country or leave Ghana temporarily, will replace the current stamped impression affixed in passports and other travel documents.

This was disclosed by the Head of Document Fraud Expertise Centre (DFEC) of the GIS, Chief Superintendent of Immigration (CSI) Kwabena Somuah Amponsah during a presentation at a training workshop on the new stickers organized for Regional and Sector Commanders as well as Officers-In-Charge of the Processing Sections.

According to him, the new stickers were embedded with security features including micro-text, hologram and invisible fibers that can only be read by a specialized verification device.

He indicated that these security features would make it difficult for fraudsters to duplicate it, adding that, it would also curb fraud associated with travel documents and prevent leakages of revenue to the GIS. “With these new measures, it is anticipated that the GIS will exceed its revenue target in the coming year,” he noted.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, in his opening remarks, admonished officers to be time conscious and counseled them to embrace positive attitude towards work. “If your time management is bad, you are bound to fail”, he stressed.

The CGI who urged the officers to adhere to the tenets and modus operandi of the introduction of the new stickers, cautioned that their attitude should be a reflection of a disciplined and dedicated worker.

He paid tribute to his predecessors and reiterated his vision of advancing the goals and objectives of the GIS.
