Three Soldiers, Policeman Shot At Agogo

Three soldiers and a policeman are on admission at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital in Ashanti with gunshot wounds after coming under attack by unknown assailants.

ASP Samuel Azugu, Asante Akyem North District Police Commander, said the victims, part of the "Operation Cow Leg" task force seeking to eject Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from the district, had gone into the bush on assignment when they were fired on.

He told Citi FM that the victims were in a stable condition.

Agogo has been the centre of bitter bickering over alleged atrocities committed by the herdsmen against local farmers and their families, leading to calls for their ejection.

Locals had threatened to take the law into their hands and forcefully eject the herdsmen and their animals if the government was not going to do anything about the situation.

Several lives have been lost on both sides while hundreds of cattle have either been maimed or killed in retaliatory attacks, often started by the destruction of farms by grazing cattle.
