Usain Bolt is to be given a trial by Borussia Dortmund in March as he looks to launch a football career after retiring from sprint racing.

The Jamaican 100m and 200m world record holder – the fastest man on earth, regarded by many as the greatest sprinter of all time – could form a formidable, lightning-fast strike partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, if he can convinced Peter Stöger to give him a chance when he gets put through his paces in March.

The 31-year-old, who is a declared Manchester United fan, is keen on a career in football, and Dortmund already stated in 2016 that they are willing to give him a chance to show what he has got. Now, a date has finally been fixed.

"In March, we're going to do a trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes," Bolt told the Daily Express. "If they say I'm good, and that I need a bit of training, I'll do it."

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist admits to being daunted by Dortmund's offer of a trial, as he seeks to realise a boyhood dream.

"It makes me nervous," he said. "I don't get nervous but this is different, this is football now. It'll take time to adjust but once I play a few times I'll get used to it. It was the same when I started track and field. I was nervous for a while until I started getting used to the crowd, people and everyone around and it falls into place,

"One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United. If Dortmund say I'm good enough, I'll crack on and train hard. I've spoken to [former United manager Sir] Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do." 
 
One date Bolt may have pencilled into his diary is the weekend of 21/22 April, when Dortmund host Bayer Leverkusen, and when Bolt – if his trial is successful – could come face to face with the man currently keen on taking his mantle as Jamaica's most famous sportsman, Leon Bailey.
