No One Can Cause My Arrest In PNC - Atik Mohammed

Embattled General Secretary of the PNC, Atik Mohammed says no one in the party can cause his arrest over claims of impersonation.

In an exclusive interview with PrimeNewsGhana to respond to a press statement issued by the party's Director of Communications Emmanuel Wilson, accusing him of impersonating the current General Secretary Jacob Amoako, Atik said the statement issued is not the position of the party.

According to him, he has been legally elected as the General Secretary of the party at Congress and that mandates him to represent the party at any event including the recent Akufo-Addo’s meeting with political party leaders in the country.

Statement of possible arrest of Atik Mohammed

A statement issued by the Director of Communications for the PNC Emmanuel Wilson cautioned the general public and its stakeholders to deal directly with its 2016 election candidate Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, and Jacob Amoako, the Acting General Secretary on matters concerning the party.

The statement issued on the back of event that the suspended General Secretary, Atik Mohammed, has allegedly been parading himself as the secretary of the party at national and social gatherings.

Atik Mohammed attended a meeting, together with the National Chairman Bernard Mornah, at the Flagstaff House when President Akufo Addo met leaders of all political parties in Ghana on January 4, 2018, after he was suspended in July 2017 for “misbehaviour and misconduct”.

“The party’s leadership will cause the arrest of Atik Mohammed if he continues to impersonate as the General Secretary of PNC, both in private and at public events,” The statement added.

Atik Mohammed bemoaned the way media outlets in the country feeds easily on statements with no credibility, forcing the genuine players to be on the defence.

He stressed that his appearance at the meeting with the President was based on a letter he was copied directly from the Presidency to represent the PNC.

PNC party differences allowing Emmanuel Wilson to misbehave

The issuance of unnecessary press statements without recourse to party structures have caused rifts between party national executives and emboldened Emmanuel Wilson to misbehave, Atik Mohammed noted.

He further revealed that a National Executive Meeting will soon be held to address the various issues confronting the party and the executives.

Atik Mohammed said addressing these identified issues means his subordinate Emmanuel Wilson will be made to face the disciplinary committee of the party.

Dr Edward Mahama should resign

Chairman of the PNC Bernard Monah and the embattled general secretary Atik Mohammed have called on the party's 2016 flagbearer Dr Edward Mahama to resign after he was appointed by President Akufo-Addo as an ambassador at large.

They contend the current position of Dr Edward Mahama will not allow him to function properly.
