Two Policemen Killed At Drobonso By Unknown Gunmen

Some unknown armed persons on Wednesday night shot and killed two police officers and wounded another at Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region.

The police officers were returning to their base at Kumawu after performing the day's duties at Drobonso in the Afram Plains area of Ashanti.

Confirming the attack, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah who chairs the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) said the attackers opened fire on the police officers without provocation.

He said though the attackers were yet to be identified, he suspects the involvement of Fulani herdsmen.

The deceased have been identified as Inspector Adolph Mutse and Constable Prosper Ashinyo. They were said to have died on the spot.

The injured officer has been named as Constable Enoch Okyere who has been sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi for medical attention.

A fourth officer, Constable Prosper Ashinyo escaped unhurt.

They were on board a police vehicle with registration number GP 2346 driven by Inspector Adolph Mutse.

According to the police, the armed men numbering about eight had barricaded the Kumawu-Drobonso main road on the Onwam mountains.

This is the second time within a week that unknown armed persons have attacked security personnel in the region.

Three soldiers and a policeman were on Monday attacked by unknown assailants at Agogo.

The four were part of the "Operation Cow Leg" task force seeking to eject Fulani herdsmen and their cattle said to be causing havoc to farmlands from the Asante Akyem North District of the region.
