Robbers Joseph Ahorde And Sulley Karim Sentenced 24 Years...

Two armed robbers, who snatched a motorbike from a commercial rider at gunpoint, have been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment each by an Accra Circuit Court.

Joseph Ahorde, mason and Sulley Karim, a motor bike mechanic, were put before the court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery to which they pleaded guilty.

They were convicted on their own plea by the judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.

In sentencing the two, the judge said she considered the fact that the two did not waste the court’s time and slapped 10 years on them on the count of conspiracy and 12 years’ imprisonment on the second count of robbery, but said both should run concurrently.

Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that Joseph Ahorde hired the services of the complainant, who is a commercial motor rider to transport him to Ablorman, near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region on December 12, 2017.

He said upon reaching a section of the road, Joseph asked the motorrider to stop and Sulley emerged from a nearby bush with a pump action gun and ordered the complainant to surrender his motorbike.

He stated that the two convicts left the scene, but the complainant raised an alarm which attracted some residents.

Chief Inspector Adu told the court that during a search for the convicts, one of the residents found an Itel mobile phone on the floor with the image of Sulley as the wallpaper.

He said the police used the picture to locate Sulley, who also led police to the hideout of Joseph.
