Navy Chief Charges Personnel About Equipment

The Chief of Navy Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo, has asked officers of the Ghana Navy to always maintain their equipment.

The Military High Command, he said, will continue to urge the government to provide the needed equipment required by the Navy to execute its constitutional duties.

“But let me challenge personnel of the Ghana Navy to handle public property with the needed care and endeavour to adopt a maintenance-conscious attitude,” he said at the 2017 annual WASSA by the Ghana Navy at the Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region.

He applauded the officers and ratings of the Western Naval Command at the Naval Base for exhibiting professionalism in the discharge of their duties despite the limited resources at their disposal.

He said despite the numerous logistical challenges and other problems, the Western Naval Command has for the past years performed its duties, including international peace support operations, to the admiration of many in the maritime industry.

“On the operational front, the Command chalked some successes as it was able to fulfill all its operational responsibilities by ensuring that ships were put to sea,” he pointed out.

The army officer said that “the challenges have been persistently communicated to government, and High Command has been assured that they would be addressed,” adding “that notwithstanding, in our own capacity, all efforts are being made to deal with some of these challenges in order to improve our operational efficiency.”

He expressed his appreciation to family members of all military officers for supporting them, and urged them to continue to ensure discipline in all aspects of their lives.

“As you are all aware the Base has numerous civilian activities ongoing and I am happy to say that there has not been any recorded incident of unruly behaviour and confrontation with our civilian partners and friends,” he noted.

Welcoming the guests to the programme, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Western Naval Command, Commodore Isaac Osei-Kuffuor, said 2017 saw numerous activities, including the Administrative Inspection of the Command by the CNS.

He challenged personnel to remain resolute and build the needed ‘espirit de corps,’ which is very crucial in the discharge of their duties.

“I entreat you all to make judicious use of the available resources at your disposal and I assure you that the Command will still endeavour to provide resources necessary for effective and efficient work so as to keep the Command afloat,” he told the naval personnel.
