Hundreds of people, young and old on Tuesday met the Commission of Inquiry on the Creation of new regions with jubilation in the Krachi districts of the Volta Region.

Motorcycle riders blared their horns as traditional dancers thrilled the crowd during courtesy calls on Dambai chiefs by the Commission.

At Kete Krachi in the Krachi West District, people were clad in "Oti Region" branded T-shirts, and school children lined-up the streets to welcome the Commission for scheduled public hearings on the creation of a region out of the Volta region at the Volta north.

Buses full of people kept pouring into the Krachi Senior High school, venue for the second public hearing, as chiefs from the Krachi Districts joined opinion leaders in advancing reasons for the creation of the proposed Oti Region.

The Commission was accompanied by Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, his Deputy, Mr Maxwell Quophi Blagodzi, District Chief Executives, and other officials.

Krachiwura Nana Mprah Besemuna III, Chairman, Joint Consultative Committee of the Oti Movement at the hearing called on government to expedite the processes and come out with an accelerated development plan for the new Region.

He said such a plan must include; a significant number of schools and colleges, roads, hospitals and job opportunities.

Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Member of Parliament for Krachi West Constituency debunked speculations that MPs from the area were not in support of the new region and said the creation of the region would bring development.

A cross-section of the public told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that access to social amenities particularly schools and hospitals would be increased, and livelihood of the population improved.
