The Former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Justice Joe Appiah, has called for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appeatu.
According to the former MP, the IGP is at liberty to resign if he feels he is unable to perform duties required of him.
“Appeatu is not the only person in the country qualified to be in that office,” he said. “If he cannot do his work, he should resign.”
The former MP, who was speaking on Yen Sempa on Onua FM on Tuesday, accused the IGP of being appointed based on his leaning towards the NPP.
He also blamed the police administration for all the insecurity in the country, adding that nobody should be allowed to justify seeming insecurity in the country since it is a canker that prevents development.
Justice Joe Appiah also cautioned the IGP to sit up and heed to advice from the NPP and NDC as well.
According to him, the time has come for the police to be up and doing, calling on the IGP to, as a matter of urgency, mobilize enough resources to get the police all the necessary working equipment to enhance and improve the work of the service.
Reacting to recent incidents of violence, lawlessness and criminal acts in Ghana, the former MP lamented that if the police, who are mandated to ensure law and order, do not feel secure, there is the need for the citizenry to worry.
He further expressed worry over the public losing confidence in the police.
Former MP for La Dade-Kotopong Nii Amasa Namoale, who was also on the Yen Sempa show, called on the police to mount a serious search for those who shot the policeman at Kwabenya and bring the perpetrators to book.
