Landguards Burn Three Bulldozers

Landguards on Thursday last week went on a rampage and burnt three bulldozers at the Gbawe waste dump site, at Gbawe, a suburb of Accra. The three bulldozers belong to Meskworld Company Limited, a waste management company currently preparing the landfill site to be used as a dumping site. The cost of the three bulldozers was estimated to be GH300,000. However, luck ran out for the landguards when three of them were caught by personnel of the Odorkor Police Divisional Command, and have been put in police custody. The three suspects are Mr. Bashiru Inusah, Mr. Theophilus Commey and Mr. Emmanuel Buaben, and are currently assisting the police in their investigations. Narrating the incident to some journalists at the site, the Freight Supervisor of Meskworld Company Limited, said the incident occurred on Thursday, around 6.00p.m when he had information that some people had blocked the road leading to the dumping site. Earlier, one truck had come to dump waste at the site, but when he got there in the company of one Baby Face, the landguards had already beaten up the driver. He added that the landguards later on that same night burnt the three bulldozers. Security for the area was later beefed up by the police, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. Documents available showed that the company legally entered into a contract with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to manage the site, and the Gbawe palace had also granted permission for the use of the site.
