Gang Rape: Second Witness To Be Cross-Examined

The second prosecution witness in the case of the five boys who allegedly gang-raped a teenager at Bantama is to appear before the Kumasi Circuit Court One, on Wednesday, 21February, 2018 to testify.

The first prosecution witness who was presented to the court was discharged after being cross-examined by the counsel for the suspects. The prosecution was subsequently asked by the court to produce its second witness for the case to proceed.

The court, presided over by Comfort Tasiame, however, remanded the suspects on Friday, 16 February, 2018 and adjourned the case to Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

Meanwhile, Mr Ebenezer Osei Opoku, one of the lawyers for the suspects had told Adehye FM that they are still following the required processes to file the appeal at the High Court over the ruling by the Circuit Court on the application filed to enquire into the determination of the ages of the suspects which was in contention.

According to the lawyers, the court had ruled that the ages as stated by the prosecution was right and, therefore has jurisdiction to hear the case.

However Mr Opoku maintained that the court's ruling did not correspond to the particular kind of application they filed and for that reason, they will file an appeal at the High Court to pray it to make enquiry into the ages of the suspects.
