Residents of Sakyikrom launch development plan

The Chief and people of Sakyikrom, near Nsawam in the Akwapem South Municipality, at the weekend launched a three year development plan at the cost of 10,000 Ghana cedis. Nana Osae Owusu I, Mankrado of the Town, said at the launch, which coincided with their annual Odwira Festival, that the project included the construction of a library facility to provide computer services for the youth. He said this would enable them to acquire knowledge in computerized education to become useful citizens in future. Other projects, he said, were the construction of a KVIP as well as the renovation of former ones to serve the increasing population. Nana Owusu said the project would be undertaken through communal labour and free contributions ranging from 10 to 20 Ghana cedis per adult, whiles the non-citizens would pay 20 to 50 Ghana cedis each. Nana Owusu commended Opanyin Yaw Donkor for offering a piece of land for the project and called on Non Governmental Organizations and philanthropists to come to their aid. Nana Hemaa Agyakwabea Akyeampomaa, Queenmother of the Town, said an amount of 1,300 Ghana cedis had been raised to start the project and called on the people, especially the youth to participate in communal labour regularly. Mr Elvis Ofori, a member of the Akwapem South Municipal Assembly, who deputized for Dr Godfred Osei Bonso Twum, Municipal Chief Executive, pledged 500 Ghana cedis as the Assembly's contribution towards the project. He said the government was prepared to assist any community which started its own project through the spirit of communal labour. Nana Kofi Owusu, Abusuapanyin of the Town, thanked Dr Godfred Osei Bonsu Twum for the pledge. He said the money would be put to good use and urged the people not to allow their political differences to create disunity among them but must unite to improve on the development of the town.
