Court Dismisses Interlocutory Injunction On Ghana Premier League

A Human Rights court two presided over by Justice Anthony Yeboah, has dismissed the interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) congress by Accra Great Olympics.

The court in arriving at the decision, took into consideration, the negative impact of the injunction on the third parties – that is other clubs involved in the league.

The Accra based club filled a suit against GFA at the Accra High Court 2 on the merit that Olympics have been unfairly treated following the dismissal of their protests against Bechem United midfielder Joseph Amoah and Felix Addo of Elmina Sharks.

According to Olympics, the aforementioned players were unqualified due to accumulated cards and thus the two clubs must suffer forfeiture under Article 34 (1) (e) of the General Regulations of the GFA, which states that ‘a team commits an offence punishable by forfeiture of a match where it fields an unqualified player(s)’.

However, the case against both clubs was dismissed by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, which prompted great Olympics to file an injunction meant to prevent the Ghana FA from announcing the 16 teams to participate in the new season until the court gives a final verdict.

At the court ruling today, Justice Anthony has urged both parties to settle the case, which involves other clubs and if they are not able to reach a consensus, then they come back his court room.
