Kufuor�s Son In Court

Edward Agyekum Kufuor, son of the former President Kufuor, has filed criminal charges against the Managing Director of Axes Co Limited, Kwame Opoku, for allegedly stealing over �27 billion of the company�s money. The money, according to prosecution, was part of a $2.9 million contract the Ministry of Energy had awarded the company in 2003. Mr. Kufuor, representing the company as a Director, claimed the accused person embezzled the huge sum of money when he acted as the MD of the company in his absence. Mr. Opoku is facing two counts of forgery of document and 16 counts of stealing. However, although Mr. Kufuor, in the company of his wife, was present in court, the case could not be heard yesterday after the prosecutor, ASP Kofi Blagogee, sought an adjournment to enable him study the docket. The case was subsequently adjourned by Justice C.A Wilson to today for hearing. Meanwhile, in a related development, Mr. Opoku and one Samuel Etroo have also filed a criminal case against two lawyers, Mr. Asumani and Ekow Amoa-Sakyi, for uttering forged document, forgery of judicial document and defrauding by false pretences. Mr. Opoku , a complainant in this matter, claims that his lawyer, Mr. Amoa-Sakyi, colluded with Mr. Asumani, Mr. Kufuor�s lawyer to secretly sell off the over $3million gold mine, in which Mr. Opoku had some interest, to Keegan Ghana Limited, a Canadian multi-national company, for sum of $850,000 by false means. According to Mr. Opoku, the cheque for the $850,000 was issued in the name of Mr. Asumani and witnessed by Mr. Amoa-Sakyi. The case, which is still pending before Justice D.E.K Daketsey, will be heard on December 18, 2009.
