Kufuor back home from two-nation tour

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor arrived back home Monday night after a 10-day working visit to Switzerland and Italy. A statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said while in Geneva former President Kufuor formally took over as Chairman of Interpeace, the international peace building organization. He succeeded former Finnish President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari who had been chairman of the group since 2000. Former President Kufuor is the first African to head the organization and has pledged to use his tenure to expand the work of the group to cover more communities and people throughout the world. In Milan, Italy, former President Kufuor met officials of the Alliance for Africa Foundation to strategize for the coming year. He is the first President of the Foundation that focuses on the expansion of education, health and preservation of civil liberties in developing countries. While in Milan former President Kufuor was guest of honour at the opening of the world-famed opera house, La Scala.
