The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) has won the bid to carry out the automation programme, under the e-Ghana project, to integrate the operations of the revenue agencies to enhance the mobilisation of national tax revenues. GCNet, has successfully automated operational processes of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), through the deployment of the Ghana Customs Management System, which has enhanced the revenue mobilisation benefits of the service. GCNet, won the bid after a competitive World Bank tender process, that involved 12 other international bidders. Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu who supported a move by Finance and Economic Planning Minister Dr. Kwabena Dufuor in Parliament on Tuesday for adoption of the 2010 budget estimates for his ministry, said the automation programme would enable the Internal Revenue Service, Value Added Tax Service and Registrar General's Department replace existing manual processes with electronic device to facilitate their work. It is also expected that through this arrangement, the business environment in Ghana would be improved to enhance corporate competitiveness and make the country attractive for foreign direct investment.
