Koforidua to enjoy uninterrupted water supply by next month

By January next year, all households in Koforidua and nearby towns will get uninterrupted water supply. Mr Okomeng Mensah, Project Consultant of the Koforidua Water Supply Expansion Project, disclosed this when he conducted Board members of the Ghana Water Company round the Bukunor Treatment Plant on Wednesday. The Koforidua Water Supply Extension Project is being funded by the Belgian Government. Mr Mensah said the project aimed at increasing the production of potable water, increase service coverage and improve water distribution in the Koforidua Township. He said a new treatment plant had been completed at Bukunor Junction to increase the production of potable water to meet the water demand of the coverage area for a population of 500,000 persons. Mr Mensah mentioned other towns to benefit from the project as Jumapo, Koforidua Ada, Effiduase, Asokore, Okorase, Oyoko, Suhyen, Bukunor, Oterkporlu, Pleyo Okper, Sikaben, Huhunya, Nkurakan and Aboabo. He said the project would ensure 24 hour water production and supply to the people. Mr Arnold Seshie, Acting Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company, commended the project team for their efforts to ensure the supply of potable water to many communities as possible. He challenged the commercial department to be up and doing so that at the end of the day they would have value for money. Mr Andrews Sodah, Yilo Krobo District Chief Executive, said whenever a project was going to be sited at any place, there should be collaboration between that district assembly and the contractors involved. He said that close collaboration would help prevent threats and intimidation from the local people who may have the erroneous impression that their lands were being taken away from them.
