Who Killed Waterproof?

The sudden death of the father of contemporary comedy, John Grahl, popularly known as Waterproof has sparked rumours of foul play at Abiriw-Akuapem where he was found unconscious and at Akropong-Akuapem where he lived with his wife and step-daughters. Waterproof, 55, died on Tuesday night at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong-Akuapem in the Eastern region after being rushed to the hospital in a Tico-like car. He was sent there at 8.15pm in an unconscious state by some good Samaritans, as described by the hospital authorities, and died later at 8.55pm. According to the administrator of the hospital, Mrs Divine Nartey, after he was brought there, the health personnel on duty tried desperately to save his life but he passed away after 40 minutes of professional medical attention. However, according to rumours and Daily Guide investigations, Waterproof collapsed in a friends house at Abiriw after he drank a cup of water offered him by the friend. Sources at Abiriw, where Waterproof mostly visited his close friend, said when he went to his friends house and drank the water, he started complaining about abdominal pains and after a few minutes, he collapsed. Daily Guide learnt that because of the circumstances surrounding his death, the police at Akuapem also suspected foul play and had launched immediate investigations into his death. When Daily Guide visited his family house at Daakye, a suburb of Akropong, yesterday, afternoon, most of the family members were said to be at the Akropong police station helping the police in their investigations. A stepdaughter of the deceased who spoke to Daily Guide on condition of anonymity said her father had been well and not complained about any stomach problem as people were alleging. According to her, Waterproof had not complained about feeling ill, adding that when he was leaving the house in the morning, he was very well until news filtered in that he had collapsed in his friends house. Waterproof was a native of Cape Coast in the Central Region and had carved a niche for himself in contemporary comedy. His wife is however in the United States on holidays. Waterproof was a celebrated comedian, actor and musician who made several appearances on comedy platforms including the popular concert party show. He went into radio in the late 90s for sometime as a presenter on then Osu-based Groove FM, now Adom FM, and was also the lead actor of an Akan radio comedy drama show called Bam Bam Show. His last public appearance before his demise was on the Sunday Concert Show at the Gloryland Hotel at Odorkor in Accra, a few weeks ago.
