NPP Group Expresses Resentment

A group of youth forming the Agambila Fan Club and aligned to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Municipality, have called on the Upper East Regional Executives of the Party, to reconsider their decision over the appointment of a Deputy Regional Organizer.

In pursuant to Article 7(4) a of the New Patriotic Party’s Constitution, the Regional Executives selected one Addi Theodore Tangomne from the Navrongo Central Constituency in fulfillment of the party’s decision to share executive power across all the political zones in the region.

In view of the Youth Group, the Regional Executives’ decision not to appoint one Charles Taleog Ndanbon because he is from the same District (Nabdam District) with the Regional Chairman, Anthony Namoo, is not a good decision for the Party.

According to the youth, they watched the campaigns of the various aspirants ahead of the last Regional Delegates Conference on April 21, and saw the number of party supporters and members that came out to support Charles Ndanbon’s bid and the new life he brought into the various youth groups across the region.

A Spokesperson for the group, Nasamu Rashid, said Charles Taleog Ndanbon who lost to the incumbent Regional Organizer, Jerry Asamani by seven votes margin, has a lot of following and also has the ability to draw in new members and supporters to the New Patriotic Party.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Anthony Namoo in a media interview said, the decision to choose Addi Theodore Tangomne from the Navrongo Central Constituency is just fair for the Navrongo Constituency, since no one from the area was among the Regional Executives.

At the time of the interview, the Regional Chairman, said no group had come to petition against the decision and was surprised that, the Agambila Fan Club had organized a press conference to express its displeasure about the appointment.

“The Executives needed to ensure that the appointments reflect the National Council of the Party, so even though you have the power to appoint, it is not absolute. You need to consider the diversity of the party in the region,” he explained.

At the close of polls at April 21, three people from the Bawku Zone got elected, for the Regional Organizer, Second Vice and Women Organizer positions.

The Central Zone had the Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, the Youth Organizer, Assistant Secretary and Nasara Coordinator positions.

The Western Zone, made up of Navrongo, Chiana-Paga, Builsa North and South had no one elected to join the Regional Executives and so, in the view of the Regional Chairman, Anthony Namoo, it was a fair decision.
