Operation Vanguard Praises Small-Scale Miners For Laying Down Tools

The Joint Military/Police Taskforce, responsible for clamping down on illegal mining: Operation Vanguard has commended the small-scale miners who have laid down their tools for complying with the steps to end indiscriminate mining.

Squadron Leader Robison Omane Agyei, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the joint team, who made this known, said, the move would help save Ghana the efforts and resources in fighting the Galamsey menace.

This was after the Forwarding Operating Base (FOB) of Operation Vanguard in the Eastern Region had arrested two suspected illegal miners at Afiensa in the East Akim Municipality.

He gave the names of the suspects as Randy Akomani and Francis Narhyo, saying, some mining equipment, among which were water pumping machines were also seized.

The PRO explained that the suspects as well as the seized items had been handed over to the Kibi District Police for further investigation.

Squadron Leader Agyei promised Ghanaians that the team and with the assistance of the public, would flush out illegal miners to protect the environment, such as the waters bodies and the land from being further degraded.

He called on Ghanaians to continue to offer information to help deal with the issue, which had become a canker in the society.
