Assistance to less fortunate can make great difference - Founder

Madam Emma Boafo-Yeboah, Founder of the Countryside Children's Welfare Home at Bawjiase, on Tuesday said assisting and showing love to the under-privileged in society, especially children, could make a great difference in their lives. She said the well-to-do in society were therefore duty-bound to provide the poor and needy with the basic necessities in life. Madam Boafo-Yeboah made this observation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the Home over the weekend. She recounted the historical background of the Orphanage and said it received the certificate of recognition as a voluntary organisation from the Department of Social Welfare in 1998. The Founder pointed out that the Home "has good records of survival for all abandoned kids from the Department of Social Welfare and elsewhere." Asked about the Vision of the Orphanage, Madam Boafo-Yeboah said it aimed at fostering, sheltering, catering and sustaining the welfare of all the inmates. Furthermore, she said the Home, also aims at laying of a Bible-based foundation for morality, and the development of healthy values amongst the children. The Home, she said, was also bent on preparing the inmates to live in a social dynamic world with a capacity to adapt positively to changes and challenges. Touching on the basic needs of the children at the Orphanage, Madam Boafo-Yeboah said the inmates had the right to shelter, food, clothing, education and good health. For this reason, she appealed to religious bodies, public-spirited individuals and organizations to assist the Orphanage. Madam Boafo-Yeboah said the Orphanage started with only six children but now had 110 children, adding that some of the products of the Home were now pursuing further studies at the tertiary level.
