Wa Polytechnic Calls For One District One Factory For Its Municipality

Wa polytechnic has called on President Akufo-Addo to bring the one district one factory programme to the Upper West Region; specifically, Wa Municipality.

This call was made by the Dean of School of Applied Art, Design and General Studies, Dr Nicholas Addo Tetteh at the school’s maiden ‘school day’ celebration, Wednesday.

According to Dr Tetteh, the region is well endowed with resources which can be channelled into factories to create employment for the teeming youth in the region and also alleviate poverty.

“…art has a role to play in moving Ghana beyond aid as well as giving the maximum self-confidence to establish one’s own enterprise. I therefore call on investors and government to turn their eyes to the Upper West Region, particularly, Wa municipality with the one district, one factory project since it is well endowed with natural resources like clay, straw and cotton. There is also scrap materials and skilled labour to aid in setting up the factories...” he opined

The event which was held in collaboration with management of the institution was climaxed by an exhibition show where products produced by the students were displayed.

The School of Applied Art Design and General Studies (SAADGS) is made up of three departments: Department of General and Liberal Studies, Industrial Art Department and Fashion Design and Modelling Department. The Industrial Art Department offers courses in woodwork and basketry, metal design and fabrication, ceramics and textiles.
