East Gonja District Assembly Exceeds revenue target

The East Gonja District Assembly, this year, exceeded its internally generated revenue mobilization target of GH57,900.00 by recording an amount of GH73,455.90, representing 127 per cent, as at the end of November 2009. Rates alone fetched GH55,771.50 representing 196 per cent of the total revenue mobilized while lands, fees and fines generated G2C,845.00 and GHC9,418.40 respectively, to exceed its target of more than 100 per cent for the first time in its history. Mr Alhassan Mumuni, District Chief Executive (DCE), for the area, announced this on Wednesday, during the third Ordinary Session of the Assembly. The meeting was to deliberate and approve budgets for execution on development projects. He attributed the achievement to measures taken by the assembly to collect operational and property rates from mobile phone operators. He however appealed to Assembly Members and chiefs to use their influence to help mobilize more funds and to assist the assembly to come out with strategies that will ensure that it realized its full potential in generating the needed revenue to augment the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for development. Mr Mumuni commended Assembly Members and revenue collectors for their commitment and resilience to work and gave the assurance that he would continue collaborating with them and other stakeholders in the district for development. He also commended the people of the area for their willingness to pay their taxes and appealed to those who have not paid to do so, to help in the district's development. He said the amount would be used to complete abandoned projects in the district, especially educational infrastructure in the district. Madam Attah Paulina, Presiding Member (PM), appealed to the 42-Member House to approve funds to extend electricity to remote areas of the district to enhance their economic activities.
