Editorial: Rawlings Of Justice Is Being Tested.

It is most disturbing. We are referring to the attack on journalists in Sunyani last Saturday during the BA@50 Awards Ceremony. A number of reporters were set upon by unidentified people, suspected to be NDC members and supporters at the awards ceremony. NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings were the guests of honour. The victims included Messrs. Motey of the Ghanaian Times, Moses of TV Africa, Dennis Peprah of the Ghana News Agency, Akwasi Ampratwum-Mensah of Daily Graphic and Michael Boateng of the Chronicle. Neither Mr. Rawlings, his wife, nor any of the dignitaries at the function "restrained their members as they callously beat Mr. Dennis Peprah to pulp", according to the Brong Ahafo Region Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association. In a statement the Branch said an irate mob smashed the side screen of a taxi cab that wanted to whisk Mr. Peprah away and have resolved to boycott all official functions of the Regional Coordinating Council and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) until further notice. The association said it would reverse its decision if the culprits in last Saturday's physical attack on journalists were arrested and brought to book. We concur. If NDC founder Rawlings is so passionate about justice a subject he talked expansively on at Sunyani then he should add these poor journalists to his Molbila list and call for justice for them. This is a major test on his integrity and sincerity. Ghana and the world are watching....
