No DVLA Licences, Permits, Bank Account Without Ghanacard - Dep. Minister

Deputy Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, William Kwasi Sabi, has said those who are not in possession of the Ghana Card must forget accessing any service ranging from acquisition of a Driving Licence, Building permits, opening Bank Accounts, acquiring a passport, be admitted on the NHIA, gain admission to schools among others.

William Kwasi Sabi explained that the Ghana Card will be the only standard of identity for all Ghanaians inside and outside the country.

He was speaking to Agya Yaw Obeng Preko on Bohye FM’s morning Show Tuesday monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

“No one can access any service in Ghana without the Ghana Card. You can’t get a driving License, you can open a bank account, you cant go to school, you cannot join the National Health Insurance Scheme; you can t do anything in this country that requires a form of identification without the Ghana Card”, he said in Twi on Bohye FM.

The Ghana Card project is being undertaken under a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement between the NIA and Identity Management Systems Ghana Limited (IMS), a subsidiary of the Margins ID Group.

The acting Executive Secretary Prof Attafuah, led a team for an exercise at the Jubilee House and later parliament where opposition NDC MPs kicked against the Ghana Card.

Following a false start, the NIA after resolving the technical challenges said it would not want to announce a date and time for rolling out the exercise but would want to get into the community before announcing itself.

The Ghana Card will replace the sectoral identity cards in circulation and become the only card to be used in transactions where identification is required as provided by law.

Among other things, it will enable other stakeholders to run their applications on the national identity card.
