Ace Ghanaian highlife artiste, Akosua Agyapong, is not happy about the state of music made in Ghana currently.

Speaking in an interview with Moses Aluebase (DJ Alligator) on Storm FM’s Mid-Morning Show in Sunyani, the ‘Frema’ hitmaker lamented the retrogressive nature of Ghana music.

According to her, songs composed by old musicians cannot be compared to what is being produced today.

“Many musicians have come and gone. Many musicians have died but were they happy before they passed on? Ghana music is retrogressing. The welfare of musicians is not being considered well.

The trend for music is not helping. Our highlife was dying before some young folks started doing it again. Look at the way people dress to shoot music videos. If the person doesn’t speak Twi or any local language, you won’t know that it is a music made in Ghana,” she stated.

“We need to market our music very well. If we do the marketing well, we won’t worry about not having BET nominations. Those using music for their businesses need to pay realistic revenues to musicians,” Akosua Agyapong stressed.

She added: “MUSIGA and GAMRO executives are not helping things. They only think about their selfish gains. If we do not do our things well, all of us will die poor. They are not doing what they are supposed to do. They pay some of the veterans just Ghc 100.” Citing profane as something which is taking a centre stage in the Ghanaian music industry, Akosua Agyapong said she won’t let any of her children to venture into the industry if the mess is not cleared, though they [her children] sings very well.
